Want to know some random facts about my art and me? Take the quiz below:

Q1Where did Iain study art? There are a lot of good training videos on Youtube™ from Chris Fornataro, Florent Farges and especially Mark Carder. Check out Mark's video on 'how to mix any color' from five colours.
Q2Who is my favourite artist? My ambition is to paint portraits. It's harder than it looks, and recent attempts have failed very badly, but I continue to watch Sky Arts 'Portrait artist of the year' and would love to be able to paint like John Singer Sargent.
Q3Which software combo did I use to build this website? Wordpress™ is good but I decided not to use it, as this site has just pictures and some text. Instead I used CSS, PHP and Javascript (not even a light framework like Bootstrap). I tested my contact form on my old laptop (after replacing Windows with Linux Mint). I am a fan of open source software, including Inkscape and Freecad.
Q4What is my favourite food? I like most food, Chicken Balmoral, battered fish n' chips, but my favourite main meal is a lamb curry with a pakora starter.
Q5I lived and worked in these two countries for a total of seven years. Grüß Gott, Tag!, Keine Sorge, mein Freund. Put a schnitzel on the barbie. Servus.
Q6Which music genre do I enjoy the most? I like to code to the sound of chillout music. London Grammar, Binaural Beats, Tinlicker, Niteworks, Moby remixes and ambient lofi.
Q7What is my favourite movie? Star Wars is not the best movie, but I will never forget 1977 when that big spaceship flew over my head in the Odeon cinema, Justice Mill Lane, Aberdeen.
Q8Which subject do I enjoy painting the most? I enjoy painting ships and the sea. Navigate to the 'Metagama' 'wheel' where I tried out painting the same scene in different weather and times of the day. This includes some very large images that are not mobile friendly.
Q9What best describes my paintings? I enjoy painting small details but I try to force myself to loosen up, and paint with bigger brushes, and broader strokes. I don't understand Abstract art but it looks fun to do.
Q10Which art medium do I prefer? Watercolour is hard because you can't recover from mistakes, pastels are messy and acrylics look artificial. I like the smell of turps but recently found out it is carcenogenic and very bad for your health.
